Powering Regenerative Tourism With Solar Energy

As a hospitality company rooted in Montana’s landscapes and communities, Starry Night Lodging + RV recognizes its responsibility to reduce environmental impact while operating reliable, guest centered properties. With energy use playing a significant role across RV parks and hotels, Starry Night sought a solution that would meaningfully lower emissions, control long term operating costs, and visibly demonstrate its commitment to regenerative tourism.

To achieve this, Starry Night partnered with OnSite Energy, a Montana based solar design and installation firm, to transition multiple properties to clean, renewable power.

The Solar Solution

OnSite Energy designed and installed solar arrays across three Starry Night properties, totaling 176 kW of on site solar generation:

  • A 68 kW ground-mounted system at Ennis RV Park, utilizing available bare land to offset electricity demand for staff and guests

  • A 69 kW ground-mounted system at the Bozeman Trail RV Park, utilizing available bare land to offset electricity demand for staff and guests

  • A rooftop solar installation at Travelodge by Wyndham Gardiner and, reducing grid reliance at a high use hotel property near Yellowstone National Park

In addition, Starry Night previously installed 3 other systems on hotels in the area, prior to a change of ownership.

Each system was designed to match the operational needs of the individual property while maximizing efficiency and reliability in Montana’s climate. Together, the installations significantly reduce electricity consumption from the grid while stabilizing long term energy costs.

Regenerative Impact

The solar installations deliver benefits that extend beyond carbon reduction:

  • Lower environmental footprint through clean, renewable electricity

  • Reduced operating costs, supporting long term business resilience

  • Visible sustainability practices that guests and staff can see firsthand

  • Education and engagement, with solar panels serving as conversation starters about responsible travel and renewable energy

At RV parks and hotels alike, guests regularly notice the solar installations, reinforcing Starry Night’s commitment to caring for the places people come to explore.
